Fallen State Trooper Honored At PSP HQ

Trooper Jacques Rougeau Jr., who died in the line of duty, was honored at the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Headquarters on Thursday (May 2). His name was added to the memorial wall, becoming the 104th trooper to be commemorated in this way. The ceremony coincided with the 119th anniversary of the PSP's establishment as a uniformed organization.

Rougeau, 29, was shot and killed in June 2023 while assisting in the pursuit of an armed suspect in Juniata County. He had served with the State Police for three years.

Governor Josh Shapiro and Colonel Christopher Paris, Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, were present at the ceremony. 'Our fallen troopers make the ultimate sacrifice for Pennsylvania – and while today we gather and honor their life in service, we must also reaffirm every day that we never, ever forget,' said Governor Shapiro.

Colonel Paris presented the Pennsylvania State Police Cross to Rougeau's wife, an award given to the next of kin of members who lost their lives under honorable circumstances in the performance of duty.

The ceremony included a moment of silence and a rifle salute in honor of the fallen troopers.
